The House View - Savings and Investment

Savings and InvestmentsFew would argue that it’s not a good idea to save some money; to ‘put some by’ for a rainy day, to ‘tidy away’ some capital for when it’s needed most.

However, knowing that it’s a good idea is one thing. Knowing where and how to do it in order to achieve what you want and when you want it might, for many of us, require a little help and expertise. Especially in the current market.

It goes without saying that finding the right savings and investment vehicle is very important and there are a huge number of avenues to choose from:

ISA’s, Savings Accounts, Premium Bonds, National Savings, OEIC’s, Unit Trusts, Bonds, to name but a few.

All of them have their merits. All of them have their downsides. Some may be applicable. Some may not be suitable.

We believe that a portfolio of savings and investments should be built over time, with constant reviews being conducted by an appropriately trained and qualified Independent Financial Planner to ensure currency and, as time moves on and circumstance change, that portfolio both adapts and delivers to the needs and requirements and attitudes of the client.

The English Mutual view is that investment planning is not solely about fund performance, it’s about the understanding and management of risk. Making sure that expectations are met and false promises are not made. Making sure that when capital is needed, whether it is in the short, medium or long term and for whatever purpose, it is there.

Investment and savings portfolios should be tailored to the real needs of the client and not to the whims of an Planner or to the trends of what’s fashionable in the market.

This is where we believe that English Mutual Financial Planners can deliver most value. By listening, counselling, accurately achieving the right balance between risk and expectations of return and always looking to maximise tax efficiency.

English Mutual Financial Planners do not manage client money. Their role is to design structure and solutions, provide strategy and guidance and to regularly evaluate, readdressing when necessary.

We like to think it’s something that we do very well.
